with the advent of digital authoring tools and digital distribution -- combined with the onslaught of inexpensive tablet computers -- academic publishing is evolving alongside traditional trade publishing. the once-humble textbook, for example, is more often than not now part e-book, part e-journal, with streaming media and "the cloud" clamoring for space on the page.

happily, meanwhile, e-reader tablets can also deliver open access content -- including peer-review, and (sometimes) peer-to-peer profit -- for wfu faculty, staff and students.
